Job Security and New Restrictive Permanent Contracts. Do Spanish Workers Fear Losing Their Jobs?∗
نویسنده
چکیده
This paper investigates the impact of the introduction of new restrictive permanent contracts on the perceived job security of workers in Spain. The perceived job security is strongly influenced by the characteristics of individuals and their distribution within groups. Comparing heterogeneous groups could make the traditional DID estimator biased. To address this issue I combined the propensity score matching with a fixed effect estimator, using data from the ECHP Survey for Spain from 1995 to 2000. The result is that the reform has a positive impact on two out of three targeted groups the ’young’ and ’middle-age’ workers and no effect for others. Several robustness checks are performed. JEL Classification: C14, C33, J28.

Using data from the British Household Panel Survey, we find that, on average, temporary workers report lower levels of job satisfaction, receive less work-related training, and are less well-paid than their...

The plight of academic staff hired on short-term contracts, who often have little chance of eventually acquiring a permanent job, is long-standing. Many therefore welcomed the EU's efforts to introduce regulations which obliged employers to offer permanent jobs to most staff after the successful completion of a period of casual contracts.
